Vodafone approached Sprung to help produce promotional, installation and walkthrough screens for the new Vodafone Music Player. The player performs a number of functions including synchronisation, artist biography, track & concert information and customisation.

The purpose of the screens Sprung produced were to inform new users of the wide variety of functions in a fun, accessible and informative way. A number of investigations were made into design style but in the end an illustrative chalk board style was considered the most successful. It delivered a strong yet fun visual style combined with a sense of instruction and functionality.

The promotional material was to appear in web carousels and provided a short, visually rich message to users about the unique selling points of the Vodafone Music Player. The variety of messages have been complimented by the variety of colour used in the screens, in which each unique function of the player is displayed on a different colour chalk board.

As well as promotional material Sprung were also asked to produce a short and simple walkthrough for new users. These screens would be displayed to the user after a new install and would provide simple and clear instructions on how to use the player. The same chalk board illustrative style was used for the screens to give the entire range of visuals for the player a sense of consistency and brand. The images below illustrate the chalk board style within both an installation and walkthrough context.

The Orange XMS project was another chance for Sprung to utilise their wide knowledge of design and functionality for tablet devices. This project centred around providing the user with an email type service to manage both their SMS and MMS messages sent to their mobile phone number to be viewed on their tablet device.

Within the service users could view, organise, delete and compose both text based and picture messages.

At Sprung we had to work not only within a new and developing set of tablet guidelines but were also helping to cement rules which had at the time been overlooked. For this reason the project took on two meanings for Sprung, firstly and most importantly we needed to develop a good looking, functional and accessible service and secondly we needed to consider how our design could be used to help produce a more polished and workable set of rules to be used in the developing Orange Tablet Guidelines.

If you or your business would like to utilise the knowledge and experience Sprung Studios have in developing design and UI for tablet services then please contact us.

The Orange ID Selector is a product based around single sign on. The popularity of single sign on has grown rapidly within the last 12 – 18 months as it provides users with a quick and easy way to log in to a number of different services.

Orange were quick to realise the potential of a single sign on service and came straight to Sprung to help produce a clear and easy way to introduce users to what was then a fresh and new way to log in.

The Orange ID Selector can now be used across a wide range of Orange products and it was the early work done by Sprung which allowed it to be rolled out quickly and as painlessly for the user as possible.

The difficulty was in producing a clean design whilst also providing peace of mind to the user about signing in with credentials from other services. As well as this obstacle there was also a difference in usability depending on the type of connection (wifi or 3G) that was being used at the time, this increased the need for an extremely clear and understandible message.

The product needed to be implemented across a range of devices most notably on both tablet and smartphones.

Tendance Sante provides it’s users with a vast amount of health and well-being information ranging from articles and media to a variety of online services. Part of our brief was to provide a solution to navigating through all of this content. For the service content, a vertical tab system was agreed by the client and the above screen shows this in use. The user is able to click on a tab and then delve further into the content via searches or list panels. To go back, the user can swipe the overlaying panels away to reveal the panel below.

Another of the navigation areas accessible when the user loads the webapp is the dynamic headline area where they can view the leading stories for each section. This was something we created and designed to enable users to quickly and easily look through the latest articles. The below illustration displays how the user can interact with the area by swiping through each section to reveal an article. As the user looks through the sections they can select to go to one of the ‘hub’ areas or directly to a chosen article.

The iPad webapp needed to work as an electronic magazine. As well as all the articles, which are available on the website, various types of media needed to be accessible as well. The user needed to be able to directly interact with them by pressing the play button or swiping horizontally to reveal the next image in a gallery.

Each design we created needed to work in both portrait and landscape modes. We investigated the best ways in which the screen ‘flips’ between each mode. We needed to take into consideration things such as how the content is positioned, displaying the same information and also the functionality of the navigation tabs. The result is a webapp which functions and looks the same in both modes enabling the user to intuitively use the service no matter which orientation they use.

If you would like to find out how your business website could be optimised for the iPad and other tablet devices, please contact us.
