LICHDOM: BATTLEMAGE

THE GAME

Lichdom: Battlemage, described on its own website as ‘one badass first-person spellcaster’, was originally released in 2014 for Microsoft Windows and then in 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One. The game unites the fierce action of a first-person shooter with a magical fantasy universe where spells are the only weapon. Playing as a Dragon mage you must fight hordes of demons and the undead as you seek vengeance on the evil that destroyed your family.

WIREFRAMES

The game relies on the player to craft spells in a myriad of different ways. Each spell is able to be augmented and adjusted. We worked on a menu system that would work for keyboard/mouse and controller and stacked from the left to give the player a clear path through the information.

UX TO UI

The UI was seen as an extension of the 3D environment. It was considered as a diegetic layer which the character could bring up from his hand at any time like a HUD. In this way, the game mixed old and new ideas to create a unique challenge for visual representation.
